Be Green.......Spring Clean!

Our annual spring clean event took place throughout the school on Thursday 6th April 2016. Throughout this day pupils engaged in a wide variety of activities. Such tasks helped to strengthen our environment and also helped to enhance our school surroundings. Great fun was had my all. Sincere thanks and appreciation to An Taisce for sponsoring this initiative and to the wonderful parents, supporters & friends of our school for helping to make this year’s spring clean so successful. A special word of thanks to Willie Kenny for coming to the school to professionally sweep our grounds and to Damien our wonderful neighbour for painting, spraying and helping to maintain our school grounds on the day of the spring clean. This was a wonderful chance to explore our local and natural environment while also allowing pupils to satisfy their curiosity & wonder.

“An understanding of the natural world and what’s in it is a source of not only a great curiosity but great fulfilment” – David Attenborough

4th Class Tulca project

Mrs Herwood's fourth class are currently working on a new and exciting project called 'Build your own Unknown'.  The project involves the collaboration with a Galway artist, Louise Manifold, Joanna McGlynn, TULCA Education Co-ordinator and The Marine Institute.  The students have begun creating their own film based on the findings along the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, north of the Azores.  The project involves researching the topic, designing a set, creating a script, recording movies and sound in the Galway Aquarium.  The final film will be showcased at Sea Fest in the Galway Museum at the end of June.  Please read the following article for more information.

Row Gavan Row!!

Well done to Gavan Hennigan on becoming the fastest ever Irishman to row across an ocean. Gavan crossed the Atlantic Ocean from La Gomera to the English Harbour in Antigua in 49 days. Gavan called to our school to share his experience and to inspire our pupils. Many thanks to Gavan. We feel very special that you chose our school to visit. Wishing you continued success.
