Seachtain na Gaeilge 2017

Seachtain na Gaeilge 2017
“An fhéile Ghaeilge is mó in Éirinn agus ar fud an domhain!
Is féile idirnáisiúnta Ghaeilge í Seachtain na Gaeilge, atá ar an gceiliúradh is mó dár dteanga agus dár gcultúr dúchais a bhíonn ar siúl in Éirinn agus in go leor tíortha eile gach bliain”.
Bhí Seachtain na Gaeilge 2017 ar fheabhais.  Bhí spraoí, sport & craic ag gach éinne sa scoil. S na G provided ample opportunities for the Irish language, culture, heritage and music to be celebrated in all its manifestations. Some of the celebrations that took place included a whole school tráth na gceist, ranganna rince, cluichí móra spóirt, comórtas ealaín agus exploration of the Irish emblems of music - the bodhrán and the harp. Lá Glas and class concerts were also facilitated throughout the school. Grandparents of the pupils were invited into the school to mark the culmination of Seachtain na Gaeilge and to celebrate Grandparents’ Day 2017. This was a wonderful and most memorable occasion. Go raibh maith agaibh go léir

Engineering Week Visit

Sinéad Joyce from Kirby Engineering visited 1st and 4th class recently as part of Engineer's Week. She told us all about engineers and how they help us in our everyday lives. Sinéad explained her job to our pupils and we learned how fascinating working as an engineer can be. She showed us how a 'triangular ruler' works which is used to calculate the scale of maps used for all types of engineering on buildings all around us. We would like to thanks Sinéad for her talk and for the lovely gifts she gave to the classes. Go raibh maith agat!

Engineer's Week Guest

On Friday last 4th Class were delighted to welcome Pat Crowley from AVAYA who told us all about his job as a software engineer. He detailed his journey from leaving school, to college to becoming a qualified engineer . Pat showed us how to dial a number on an old fashioned telephone and explained how it worked. It was fascinating. He also showed us the inner workings of a transistor radio and explained  how a microchip works. Pat highlighted how technology has changed his role as an engineer over time and how much fun it is to be an engineer. Thanks to Pat for his presentation and the souvenirs he  brought for everyone.

WEEE Ireland Initiative

WEEE Ireland will be calling to our school in the coming days to collect old and unused batteries. If you have old/unused batteries at home or in the workplace, please send them into the school as we recycle them in a very worthy way. By recycling the batteries at school you are supporting the Laura Lynn Foundation, Ireland’s only children’s hospice.

Did you know ……? 1 million AA batteries were recycled through the WEEE Pledge Initiative in 2016

Many thanks for always adhering to our green ethos.
