Comhghairdeas TG4 - Teriffic Teilifís!

As you all know TG4 celebrated its 20th anniversary on Hallowe’en night 2016. To celebrate this fact, we chose to display a wonderful array of seanfhocails throughout the school.  We also made a very special effort to tune into our indigenous TV station. TG4 reminds us on an ongoing basis of our wonderful heritage and culture, through song, music, sport and its wonderful nuacht service. Thank you TG4 and wishing you all continued success. Go n-éirí an t-ádh libh agus comhghairdeas.

Did you know……….?

When TG4 launched in 1996 it was called T na G (Teilifís na Gaeilge)
TG4 is in Galway
President Michael D. Higgins was the Miniister for Arts, Heritage & the Gaeltacht when TG4 went live on air in 1996.

Happy Hallowe'en!

Hallowe’en was celebrated throughout the school before our mid-term break. Some pupils participated in ‘dress up’, Hallowe’en poetry, songs and stories were explored. Creative writing took place to reflect this time along with many pupils playing traditional Hallowe’en games. It was a ‘spooktacular’ time in our school!

Baboró Children’s International Arts Festival 2016

Younger pupils of our school community thoroughly enjoyed a recent trip to the Baboró Children’s International Arts Festival. The production entitled ‘I Pack My Bag’ took place in the Nun’s Island Theatre. The cast of the show provided an opportunity for the Children to respond the show, by facilitating a questions and answers session at the conclusion. While making our way to Nun’s Island we also had great fun identifying signs of autumn, including the naming of various trees, along with identifying Galway Cathedral, Galway City Courthouse, the Town Hall Theatre, the Poor Clare’s Convent and the Salmon Weir Bridge. It was a very memorable occasion. Many thanks to all at Baboró for inviting us to this special event.

Book Week 2016

From 24th- 28th October 2016, we celebrated Book Week. Throughout this time we engaged with various form of literature. We hosted our annual book fair & investigated the lives of many well-known authors. We particularly focussed on the life of Roald Dahl, as he would have celebrated his 100th birthday this year. Each class was brought on a visit to Ballybane Library. In the library, children were presented with a chance to meet authors who presented their works. Pupils throughout the school enjoyed exploring the story of ‘The Ugly Duckling’ & 'The Children of Lir' and drew many comparisons between  the swans & ducklings in the stories to those found in the Claddagh in Galway City. As always, this was an incredible time in our school.

Mental Health Awareness Week 2016

Mental Health Awareness Week took place across the country from the 9th-15th October 2016. During this week we created an awareness amongst the pupils about the importance of maintaining our mental health. We discussed the way in which it’s ok to have different feelings but that the most important thing to do is to TALK about how we feel. We should talk to our family, friends, teachers & mentors to mention but a few. EVERYBODY- young and old- should talk about how they feel. We learned that we always feel better after a good talk/chat.

Space Week 2016

Pupils assembled a wonderful display on our school corridor to mark Space Week 2016.
