Community Competition!

Congratulations and best wishes are extended to Seán Cullinane who has been chosen to represent his category in the All-Ireland Community Games Model Making competition. Seán was victorious in the regional and semi-final competitions in which he constructed a Gaelic football & a sliotar. These items represented our national games very successfully. Well done Seán.

Rmembering in a special way the events of 1916

Below is an  image of a very special plaque. This memorial token was carefully created and placed upon the wall adjacent to a recently planted rose bush. The memento helps us recall the significant events that took place in our country one hundred years ago.

1916 Rising Projects

Children in Third and Fourth Class worked together in groups to create fantastic projects detailing the events of the 1916 Rising. The children showed excellent organisational and team work skills in their research, design of projects and presentation. Their research was extensive and varied which is reflected in their interesting and informative projects. The children proved themselves to be fantastic historians and now have a wealth of information regarding the 1916 rising. If you have any questions regarding the rising, you can be sure they will have the answer for you! The children  presented their projects to peers on the day of ' Lá Glas' which was a very fitting Day, since they were dressed in their most patriotic attire! Well done to all the children involved as they poured enthusiasm, dedication and hard work into their projects!

Earth Day 2016

To celebrate Earth Day 2016 we engaged in a mini-beast hunt. We searched for the following: caterpillar, ladybird, fly, spider, dragonfly, earwig, worm, woodlouse & bee. We spotted lots of these in the school yard and gardens. We also prepared more planters and we placed the flower boxes onto the window cills. We looked at ways in which we can further enhance our planet. This was done through story, poetry, interactive presentations and the use of photographs. Lots of fun was had using the globe. We respect and cherish our planet on a constant basis and are proud to do so.

Rocket Launch!

The Children really enjoyed investigating the launch of a balloon rocket. This involved getting the balloon to fly in a straight line. We came to the conclusion that the air coming out of the back of the balloon pushes the balloon forward. This is how rockets work – the hot burning gases rushing out the back of the rockets push them forward. This was a very worthwhile experiment and lots of fun was had by all!!

5th Class Animate the 1916 Rising!

5th class have been busy recently exploring the animation process. They decided that, given the centenary celebrations currently taking place in Galway, they would document the daily features of the 1916 Rising through the medium of animation. They had a lot of fun engaging in this cross-curricular process and learned lots of new skills along the way (as outlined in the image below).

Please have a look their fantastic animation at this YouTube link: https://youtu.be/2t4NCwwGGjc and hit the like button if you enjoy what you see!
