Solar Eclipse

On 20th March 2015 we witnessed a wonderful eclipse. During this time the moon covered  the sun. It created a real sense of wonder and astonishment throughout the school. As the eclipse was taking place everywhere became very dark. We turned off the lights to observe this sense of darkness. All classes watched the eclipse live on the interactive whiteboards. When it was safe to do so, and there was sufficient cloud cover in the sky, classes were invited to experience the Eclipse in the outdoors. Children were given a few seconds to see the eclipse in the sky. Conditions were perfect and a big cheer was given by the children in the yard. Hopefully this will remain a very positive memory for the boys and girls and that they will remember this occasion during the next eclipse.

Seachtain na Gaeilge

Well known harpist and musician Una Flanagan, joined us in celebrating S na G 2015. She participated in a magnificent musical recital. The boys and girls throughout the school joined Una for this show and more of the children provided the dancing. It was an amazing experience. Una taught us various Irish focloir, shared some of her stories & experiences and told us some traditional Irish tales. Thank you Una.

Photography Exhibit!

All classes really enjoyed having their photos taken. It was lovely to see the friendships that exist between all of the children as  they got organised to have the photographs taken.  Many of the children were amazed by the props, the setting, the flashing camera and the tools of technology that were used throughout this event. We look forward to seeing the photographs in the near future. In the meantime, here is a quick glimpse of the set up on the day!

Creating a smoothie!

We created delicious smoothies using various berries and fruit that are in season. This activity reflects our healthy eating policy and also creates an awareness of how tasty these healthy snacks can be. We look forward to adding various vegetables in the future.

Van Gogh inspired lessons

We researched Vincent Van Gogh and created murals in response to this.
